''Hi all,
I've just been advised by my Kathmandu-based travel agent that Tibet is effectively closed to foreigners until at least October. I don't know how reliable this advice is, but it seems to fit everything else I've heard (ie - recent posts here, TTB's apparent meeting yesterday, general happenings in recent weeks).
Good luck to anyone who still has a hope, but I've resorted to my Plan E (Plans B - D all involved Tibet in different iterations). And thanks to everyone who has looked at/responded to my many posts searching for travel companions.''
''Hello everybody,
We are a group of 6 Russians, being stuck in Kathmandu right now.
We have received our permit set on May 31 (as far as I understand they were initially issued a little bit earlier, as TTB was not issuing anything since 28th, but some additional approvals took several days, so final set was ready on 31st) and arrived to KTM on 3rd of June (Tibet was still open) and immediately applied for extra-urgent (1 day) Chinese group visa. We were supposed to get that visa by the end of June 4th and fly to Lhasa today morning.
Yesterday evening our agent informed us that Tibet is officially closed for all foreigners starting from June 5th. Eventually we were late by just one day, a very bad luck

''them have tourists stranded around the border areas because even people with permits and valid visas are now being refused entry. We're turning to our plan B which is to head up to near the Tibetan border and do some trekking from the Nepalese side. All the agents we saw are not expecting the visa situation to resolve itself until around October or November and are therefore advising all bookings they have until that time to cancel.''
''Sangri_La - We are in the same boat as your mother's party. We were scheduled to go as a small private group last week and have been waiting in India. We were originally schedule to go in thru Kathmandu but once the situation got difficult around the 23 of May we decided to get some Chinese visas so that we could enter from Chengdu. A couple of days before we could fly to Chendgu that option closed as well.
We were one of the luck ones in that we did not fly into a border town and wait around.
Our agent was hopeful and asked us to wait till Monday the 4th(main Saga Dawa day) as there was a TTB meeting. However nothing was decided at the meeting and there has been an information blackout after that. The latest I heard this morning from my agent in Lhasa is what everyone on this forum has been writing about. He confirms that there is no hope of Tibet opening up till the end of September and wanted us to cancel our plans to Tibet.''
